The Ostrava Firefighting Museum is situated in a beautiful Art Nouveau building in the Přívoz district. Dating back to 1905, the building served as a fire station for the voluntary corps until 1980, when the organization was disbanded. It was then used by the Ostrava City Fire Protection Board as a training centre for seminars and other related events. It was during this period that the first exhibitions of historical firefighting equipment and documents were opened. In 2004, after a thorough renovation, the museum was re-opened to the public. It currently houses exhibitions on firefighting equipment, the history of firefighting, model situations and video projections – all offering visitors a fascinating insight into the work of firefighters.
