On the motion of František Křižík, dynamos for electric lighting were installed in the water mill in 1887 and were driven by the mill-wheels in the evenings and nights. Písek became the first town in Bohemia with permanent street electric lighting. The mill operation terminated during the following 4 years. In the beginning of the 20th century the water supply station and neighbouring saw-mill were liquidated and the water mill-wheels were replaced by two Francis turbines. The power plant operated until 1986. In the beginning of the 1990s it was reconstructed and since April 1994 it has supplied power to the electrical network, using the original devices of 1901, just with a new generator.
