The St. Stephen's Basilica is an ancient church in Milan. Originally dedicated to St. Zachary, was later dedicated to St. Stephen in the Xth century. It is also called St. Stephen Brolo, from the name of the historic area. The December 26, 1476 was the scene of the assassination of Duke Galeazzo Maria Sforza during the celebration of the patron saint. The September 30, 1571 was baptized there the painter Michelangelo Merisi, better known as Caravaggio. Here are preserved the bodies of saints Martiniano Osio, Ausano and Mansueto, archbishops of Milan. St. Charles Borromeo translated here the bodies of saints Leone Arsazio, Marino, Mamete and Agapito.
