During many centuries Piazza delle Erbe was the focal point of social, economic and religious life in Verona. During the Roman age it hosted the Forum, from which came the current square length: there were the Capitol, Temples and Spa, connected by a colonnade that housed several shops. In the middle age it was the place of the political power and under the Scaliger family became a vibrant center of arts and commerce. When it was dominated by Venice, it became the criminal and civil court, but still remaining the preferred meeting place.
