In July 2006, a new water park was opened in the most populous district of the city, Ostrava–Jih (covering most of the southern suburbs). The park contains water slides, toboggans, jacuzzis, restaurants, shaded terraces and other attractions. The sporting facilities consist of a traditional 50-metre pool with 6 lanes and starting blocks, a shallow rest platform running around the circumference of the pool, and an arch-shaped wall with benches for air and water massage. The largest pool is the relaxation pool, with its irregular shape and a central island equipped with climbing nets. One part of the pool, partially covered, imitates the strong currents of a whitewater river. Among the other popular attractions are the gargoyle, the water cannon, wall-mounted massage jets, water walls, bubble massage, water and air benches, and underwater loungers. The water park also has a children’s pool and a paddling pool with fountain jets.
